The exotic heroine of One Thousand and One Nights gives her name to Rimsky-Korsakov’s masterpiece. Love and death have served composers well over the centuries; the drama of Romeo and Juliet is matched by a dance with Death himself in Saint-Saëns’ classic tone poem.
